A Note from the Observatory's Director

Welcome to the first issue of Borderless Report, an eletronic newsletter from the Observatory on Borderless Higher Education. Its purpose is two-fold: first, to give readers including those who are not subscribers to the Observatory's content, access to some of that content. We are redrawing the line on our website between open access and membership content such that some in-house articles and briefing notes will be available to non-members.

Secondly, this newsletter will make more stakeholders aware of the range and depth of reports commissioned and published by the Observatory for its subscribers.

The links accompanying the stories will take you to website where the materials are kept. The website is undergoing a redesign and improvement to its functionality. Longstanding subscribers will soon notice a much-improved search function, for example.

We hope you find the articles interesting. And in the spirit of the second purpose of Borderless Report, we can advise that three new reports are currently in the works, as follows:

  • European Higher Education in a Global Setting: What Next? will consider what is next for European TNE in the wake of the Bologna Process;

  • The Global Education Index, a report which the Observatory first developed five years ago, will udpate information on major for-profit providers operating in the international higher education arena;

  • Educational Trade: Patterns between Australia & Latin America will analyze Australia's service trade with Latin America, with specific reference to education.
