Abstract

The Open University Malaysia (OUM), which is to celebrate its tenth anniversary next August, will soon start offering Master’s programmes in Ghana and Vietnam. The initiatives follow the institution’s recent expansion into the Middle East. What are the details of OUM’s international ventures, and why has the university chosen these particular countries to offer its programmes? More generally, which challenges are Asian Open Universities currently facing, and which measures need to be taken to strengthen open and distance education in the region?
