Leveling the International Playing Field: Speaker Profiles

Swati  Mujumdar, Director, Symbiosis Center for Distance Learning, India

After obtaining a MBA from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Ms. Swati Mujumdar went on to obtain her Master’s in Computer Science from Ball State University, Indiana, USA.

Swati stayed on in the USA for over 12 years working in some of the leading ICT companies such as Nortel Networks, CISCO, EDS etc.  This experience broadened her horizon, building a strong foundation in the use of latest technology in various domains.  She returned to India in 2001 and instead of joining an IT company, she preferred to join her father, Dr. S.B. Mujumdar, in furthering the cause of education through Symbiosis, an internationally reputed educational institution. She joined as the Director of Symbiosis Center For Distance Learning, an institute which has been imparting many programs through distance mode since 1994.

Almost single handedly and working with all aspects of administrative and operations responsibilities, she has raised the stature of this institute to international repute.  It is only because of her total and unstinted devotion & commitment to the development of this institute that today SCDL has more than 200,000 post graduate students from all states of India and 42 different countries. It was the implementation of key ICT solutions and a strong focus on quality improvement that enabled SCDL to rapidly grow in popularity and size. Swati has also been taking keen interest in introducing several innovative academic programs every year with a vision for market requirements and a blended learning model combining e-learning and virtual classrooms to enrich students learning experience.

Swati was recently elected as a member of the prestigious Executive Council of Asian Association of Open Universities, an association for promotion of Open and Distance Learning in Asia. Swati will represent India and also South Asia in this Association.

She has been a recipient of the ‘Sanganak Sarathi IT Award 2010’ and ‘Excellence in Education’ award. She has also been selected as the Chair Person of a committee constituted by the Government of Maharashtra for establishment of Vocational University in Maharashtra, India.
